An introduction to Ginger… Anna Skea has been designing and making knitwear in Morar since 1980, and now retails high quality knitwear at Ginger, a colourful workshop and showroom in Morar village. We also have an Edinburgh workshop and store in Morningside now almost at its second birthday.
Anna’s pieces are very individual. Inspiration comes from the rock formations, seashore and living environment of the Highlands with colours and textures reflecting these sources.
Our colourful yarns are natural and sustainable, felted pieces use wool sourced in the Highlands. All our knitwear can be made to order so if we don’t have the right size, colour or you’d just like slightly longer sleeves just ask.
Alongside Anna in Morar is Sarah helping her make the majority of our lovely knitwear. Sarah has a great sense of style and is a dedicated knitter.
I (Fiona) have just started working for Anna, managing the Edinburgh shop and doing my best to learn all her patterns and how things work. I’ll be doing a collection for summer 2012, haven’t begun working on it yet but I’ve been thinking… and that’s the best place to start. Having just graduated from studying a degree in textile design (knit) I know my way around a machine but I still have a lot to learn, Anna and Sarah have been amazing teachers.
